U16s v Glenalmond

Young Reds Superb in Fine Win

Linlithgow 55 – 10 Glenalmond

Report by Graeme Miller

The Young Reds U16s took on Glenalmond B on a very wet and muddy Lower Mains Park and came out 55-10 winners, scoring 5 tries and 3 kicks in the first half with Glenalmond crossing our white wash once when we were already 24-0 up. The second half was 4 tries and 2 kicks for the home team, with the visitors scoring an interception with 5 minutes to go.

Linlithgow always looked in control after an excellent start by Glenalmond keeping the ball for the first 5 minutes, but not really going forward too much. Their hands and ‘jackal’ technique were excellent, but Linlithgow defended well and eventually our strong runners and stone-wall defence shut down the visitors.

With 5 of our squad being unavailable, this caused some of our boys to be playing out of their usual position. They all played brilliantly in attack and defence.

Our points scorers were Johnny with 2 tries, Jack with 2 and Charlie, Reece, James, Euan and Ryan with 1 each. Caiden stepped in at stand off and kicked 3 conversions and Logan grabbed 2 brilliant ones from pretty far out. Thrilling to see hooker Ryan score from a 30 yard driving maul and big second row James crashing over also.

A great team effort with some tremendous handling in the last 10 minutes from all the boys. Fantastic to watch and hopefully the S2 boys who came down to cheer us on thought so too!
