6 Nations’ Prediction Cards 2015

Dear Parent/Player/Member

I am writing to let you know that we are about to send you or ask you to pick up your Six Nations Prediction Sheets.

I thought everyone might find it helpful to be reminded of the importance of these. This annual fund-raiser for your rugby club has been going for over two decades.  Although the Executive felt able in 2013 to contribute £500 from the proceeds to our 2020 Project and a further £600 in 2014 (and will do so again in 2015 if we can retain the same general level of income for the Club from this), it is important to remember that this is a fund-raiser for the club as a whole, to support our activities on and off the field in promoting rugby.

In fact, after the Fireworks Evening, this is the biggest fund-raiser of our annual cycle of events. You can imagine then that, while we are grateful for the efforts of all of you who sell your sheets, we remain frustrated by the fact that, last year, typically, we printed 7,000 sheets for our 600 members and yet we made less than £3,000.

That is why we urge you to make every effort to sell your “share”.  First of all, tell people that the sheets are not difficult to complete.  Just as you do not need to know about football to win the pools or know the laws of probability to win the lottery, there is no need to know about rugby to win this competition.  It is just a bit of fun, although one piece of advice to give is that a draw is rare in rugby!

Secondly, there are lots of opportunities to sell it to family and friends.  We have the cards available before Christmas because family gatherings are good opportunities.  At work, how many raffle tickets have you bought from colleagues?  This is a chance for your colleagues to reciprocate.  You might find it becomes an office “tradition”; we know that the Alnwick CAB look each year for their sheets, where they are sold by a relative of one of our members!

We ask you to sell your “quota” – and you can come back for more.  We ask you to make it an annual habit.  If you don’t receive any next year, come looking for them. And mention them to fellow members and parents on the touch lines to make sure we are all doing our best.

The prediction sheets cost only £1 each.  Return your sold cards either to the box at the Rugby Club or to Craig Young, 71 Deanburn Park, Linlithgow, West Lothian, EH49 6HA before 8pm on Friday 6 February 2015.  Please don’t send cash through the post.  Cheques should be payable to LRFC.    Please do NOT hold on to unsold tickets.  They can be passed to someone else.  (You could always make a donation to the club instead of selling.)

Thanks in anticipation of your continued support.  If you have any questions, please contact me on
