Another nice Saturday and a coach waiting to take the players for the last second team game of the season. Peebles have had a variable season and hopes were high that we would finish on a winning note. So we departed with a good squad in good time for the trip to Peebles.

On arrival we found we were playing on the main pitch as the Peebles 1st XV were away in Glasgow. The game started a few minutes late as we had to wait for a change strip for the home team but we were soon into action.

Andrew Graham caught a nice ball from the KO and we made good ground with Muzz carrying well, unfortunately the ball didn’t go to hand and a turnover occurred. The Peebles team cleared the line and the Reds were back down the field. From the ensuing lineout the ball was tapped back cleanly by Eioan Magee and passed along the line to Freddie Adcock who cruised through a number of tackles to score below the posts. Converted by Gregor Stewart, 7-0 to the Reds.

The Reds were well in control but as is often the case could not convert the pressure into points, good play by all in the pack often resulted in an infringement which was punished by the referee. Jamie Campbell on the wing who had made a few good runs pulled a hamstring and came off injured and was replaced by Cammy Walker. Chris Ronalson came on and assumed the role at scrum half which changed the style of play, but still no additional scores.

Half time came and the score was still 7-0 but not long after a nice move out to the wing saw Ross Penderleith with work to do but he scored. The try was not converted and the score was 12-0 to the Reds.

The Reds were putting pressure on the Peebles line and were in the home teams 22 for a considerable period of time. So much so that a pair of Mallard ducks settled briefly at the Reds goal line. Play ebbed and flowed between the 22s but often broke down with some of the referee’s decisions mystifying both sides.

However eventually Cammy Walker scored and Gregor Stewart converted to leave the score 19-0 to the Reds. Peebles fought back and after a series of errors managed to score down the blind side of a loose ruck, making the score 19-5

The Reds took play down the park and Gregor McLean made a nice break in midfield outside Peebles 22, Andrew Archer always in support was inside to receive the pass and score a nice try (24-5 to the Reds).

Everyone was happy in the Linlithgow camp that a win was on the cards and this was topped off deservedly in the final minute by Adam Scott to leave the final score 29-5 to Linlithgow.

A good performance for the last game of the season but all of us agreed we left a lot of points on the pitch.  Something to work on throughout the teams in the club. All the best to the lads who will not be playing for us next season due to career or personal changes in their lives. Gregor Stewart in his new career change in relocating to Jersey and Muzz Murray the captain of the 2s this year who is moving house away from the area. We all wish you both well for the future.

Only a few 7s competitions left for those who feel fit enough!!!!!!!!!
