Clean Sweep for Young Reds This Week

Following the big cup wins midweek from the U18s and U16s, the S1s, S2s and U15s all came awy with wins on Friday afternoon. A huge well done to the U15s who, with a full complement of 15 players for the first time this season, claimed their maiden win, with a 5 try performance against Trinity.

Young Reds U15 Claim Win

Linlithgow U15  29 – 21  Trinity U15

For the first time this campaign the U15s had 15 players to start a game.  They were evenly matched numerically and weren’t playing against superior numbers as they had encountered in previous matches!  It was a heavy, sodden wet pitch but they started with great intent and scored 2 unconverted tries through Aidan and Connor.  Trinity dug deep and came back at the Reds and the Young Reds let in 2 easy scores, perhaps because we thought it was going to be an easy game after our 2 early scores.

The boys rallied after realising the game was not won and played some great rugby varying the play from rucking to kick chase and both Aidan and Connor scored again with Aaron converting both. The boys heads were now fully focused on maintaining this great  style of rugby and managed another try through Alex, keeping going until the final whistle then winning 29-21 after Trinity managed another try in the 2nd half.

In summary, fantastic to be able to field a full team and the boys showed that they can play a great brand of rugby when there are no gaps to be filled! After a period of switching off in the first half they showed great spirit and determination to fight back and secure a very well deserved first victory of the season. Let’s hope for 15 players next week!!

S2s Continue on Winning Run

Victorious winning S2 Squad minus Fraser

Linlithgow S2  38 – 4  Trinity S2

Linlithgow S2s in a great performance won 38-4 scoring 10 tries and 8 conversions, with Trinity getting an early converted try.

Tries from Lewis, Fraser 2, Reece 2, Johnny, Daniel and Jack 3.

There was some great forward play from Alex, Lewis, Ryan, Skinny, James and a dominant back row from Johnny, Fraser and Jack.  Great back moves were delivered by Daniel, Reece, Euan, Ruan , Logan and Caiden.  Special mention to Jake on stopping Trinity forwards 4 times when they were 5 metres from the line and Oogs who put in a star performance at scrum half.

The day was a special day for Linlithgow as they had 2 new great players playing their first games for the club.  Both Charlie and big Marc got stuck in and are looking brilliant as they continue to learn the game.

S1s Continue on a Roll

S1 Squad after their win!

Linlithgow S1  37 – 0  Trinity S1

On a soaking evening in Linlithgow, the S1 team handled the conditions perfectly against a visiting team from Trinity. The boys were relentless for the full game and posted out biggest winning margin of the year with a score of 37-0.

Before the game we spoke as a team about playing to the conditions, keeping passes close and simple in order to look after the ball. That was a different message from recent weeks, but the team took it in well.

From the outset we put our stamp on the game and pressured the visiting team. Cutting their space and making sure our tackles counted meant that the ball was turned over in the opening minute and we raced away to set up our first try. That opened the gates and the end of the first half saw Linlithgow with a score of 6 tries to nil (5 of them converted).

The second half saw more of the same with another 4 tries (2 conversions) coming our way. More impressively we managed to keep a clean sheet against a Trinity side that just wouldn’t give up. All credit to a new and inexperienced Trinity team, they never gave up and tested our boys a couple of times.

Our repeated indiscipline game them field position a number of times and we then had to rely on our defence to get us out of trouble. Luckily we’ve been working on line speed and counter rucking for a number of weeks and this shone through each time, with the boys winning the ball back and clearing their lines.

All in all a great performance from the boys and a real show of character to keep such a solid defence for the full game.
