Wee Reds at the Watsonian Tournament
P7 Match Report by Stuart Ritchie
The Wee Reds P7s attended Myreside on a beautiful Sunday morning for rugby . With 10 players available (no subs!) it was going to be a good test of our reserve and fitness. The team played five games in total against Kelso, Watsonian Falcons and Eagles, GHA and Lasswade. It was a great morning of rugby. The games were tightly packed together with a five minute break between – a good physical test!
The team had two good victories against Kelso and Lasswade, missed out by one try against Watsonian Eagles and put in very spirited performances against the Falcons and a very physically strong GHA side (the eventual winners). The coaches were very impressed at our teamwork, resilience and putting all we had practiced into play. 18 team tries was a great return.
Our 11th player (the supporters) made a fantastic contribution, and provided real motivation to the team – thank you!
P5 Match Report by Tim Armour
The P5s were at Watsonians Warriors on Sunday 6 March for the Warriors annual spring festival. The weather was extremely kind to us and the pitches were in great shape. We played six other teams – two from the Warriors, Kelso, Stewarts Melville, Glasgow Hutchesons Aloysians (GHA) and Lasswade.
The squad of 11 put in a fantastic performance with some absolutely fantastic tackling, try scoring passing and generally great team work. In the game against Lasswade we had (what all agreed, ref included) the longest phase of defence that anyone had seen at P5 level. Lasswade were attacking the Linlithgow try line and for about 20 phases Linlithgow kept them out and then, with some quick hands, turned over the ball and shot to the other end for a brilliant try. The other five games were all hard fought and close matches and we ended with some very proud parents and coaches along with some tired and ‘buzzing’ P5s.
