On a morning perfect for rugby the Reds faced the potentially tricky local match against Boroughmuir HS on the main pitch at Meggetland.
With both sides hit by injuries and unavailability many Reds players had to play in unfamiliar positions in order to allow the game to take place. To their great credit all the guys just rolled up their sleeves and got on with the job in hand.
The Reds opened strongly and Kieran grabbed an early score with a powerful run taking a couple of defenders over with him. Aidan converted quickly following with a try when he looped round to finish wide out after some good hands across the field.
Ryan was next on the score sheet scoring from close range with a couple of defenders hanging on to him. Kyle playing out in the backs crossed wide out after breaking through the home defence. Fraser was next on try list with some clever foot work and dash to the line.
Half Time: Boroughmuir 0 Reds 27
The second half began with the Reds determined to win the half and keep a clean sheet. Boroughmuir opened strongly but good goal line defence kept them out and eventually after good breakdown work the Reds where soon back on the attack. Kyle crossed for a second after breaking the line in midfield, Kieran converted. The kicker then crossed again after some good hands across the field gave him space to run into he also added the extras.
Fraser grabbed his second after some good support play allowing him to cross near the posts, with Kieran converting. Some great support play by the team resulted in Fraser completing his hat-trick at the end good team score. Nathan crossed next for the Reds when he made a strong line bust and charged over the line close to the posts Kieran adding the extras. Fraser then capped a fine performance with his forth try after some good work from Andrew put him clear Kieran once again adding the extras.
Best wishes to Aidan who received a nasty accidental facial cut requiring many stiches. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Final score: Boroughmuir HS 0 Reds 67
Great team effort this one with no subs on the day the whole team had to really battle and play for each other with guys playing out of position. Some big tests still to come but if the squad can play the remaining games with the same energy and spirit shown today the coaching team will be well satisfied.
