Depleted Reds battle hard away at Trinity
The Reds only had thirteen players fit and available for the short trip to Trinity. It was agreed to start the game as a thirteen aside game and the early exchanges looked positive for the young Reds. They opened the scoring with a try, from Aiden who gathered a Trinity kick just on half way and with a good line bust ran strongly to score, Gregor adding the extras.
Our hosts then had extra players to accommodate and the game was then changed to fifteen a side with the Reds picking up two guest players from Trinity. The home team hit back just before half time with a try.
Half time: Trinity u18 5 – 7 Linlithgow u18
The second half opened with the visitors having a long period of pressure down in the Trinity half. Trinity held out well close to their own line before Fraser dashed over close to the line from the side of a ruck. Both teams battled each other well but having the ability to make more changes and bring fresh legs on it was Trinity who scored next with a converted try to level the scores level.
The match was up for grabs and the Reds again had a number of minutes camped on the Trinity line only to be held out by the home defence. Trinity got the final score of the game a converted try.
Final score of Trinity u18 19 – 12 Linlithgow u18
Good effort from the available players especially given the number of positional changes the coaches had to make as well. Our fitness held up well on a heavy pitch and the squad kept going to the end. The coaching team are hoping to have a few players back for the Reds next fixture.
