Young Reds u18s Open Against Tough Opposition

Linlithgow Acad u18  12 – 41  Hutchesons GS u18

Saturday 26th August

For a pre- conference match Linlithgow welcomed Hutcheson GS to Mains Park on a day perfect for rugby.  The coaches agreed to play 3 x 20 minute sessions.

The visitors opened strongly and scored an early try despite the efforts of the home defence.  The Reds then had some time in the visitor’s half with strong runs from James and Matthew but a turnover of ball and quick hands saw Hutcheson score again.

A couple of quick taps and a strong burst saw Nathan cross for the first try of the Reds new season with Grant adding the extras.

From the re-start the visitors turned ball over again but the Reds were unable to capitalise.

1st Third: Linlithgow u18s 7 – 17 Hutcheson GS u18

The second section of the match opened with Reds deep in the visitor’s half with James and Nathan both being held just short of the line.  A good break by the visitors was halted by Andrew just outside the home twenty-two but quick ball lead to another visitor score.

Grant then put a good kick through and Ruiardh chased through hacked on and was unlucky to have a try disallowed in a foot race for the touchdown.  Darren made a great try saving tackle over the line holding the visiting winger up preventing a certain try.  Some good hands and quick passing resulted in the home defence being broken again.

2nd Third: Linlithgow u18s 7 – 29 Hutcheson GS u18

The final twenty minutes was keenly fought and some good hands along the back line gave Ruiradh some space and he finished strongly wide out for the Reds second try.  The visitors finished strongly with two late tries.

Final Score:  Linlithgow u18s 12 – 43 Hutcheson GS u18

Coaches view

For a first game with many guys playing new positions the effort the team showed was good.  The players after the match spoke about the need to get everyone down to training and to welcome back some missing players as we move into our league games this coming Saturday.  Lots of work to do but still early season.
