U16s Run QVS Close in Shield Quarter-Final

Queen Victoria School  12 – 7  Linlithgow

Report by Graeme Miller

Saturday the 4th of February saw the U16’s take on the rescheduled quarter final cup game against Queen Victoria School up in Dunblane.  The weather was wet and windy with the pitch already pretty poor, but the game was extremely close with both sides trying to play open  expansive rugby.

With almost the first contact ruck resulting in our vice-captain and No. 8 Johnny unfortunately getting a graze across his temple and having to come off to receive 4 stitches, our re-shuffled side continued but QVS came out on top with the final score of 12 – 7.

It was a tense affair with a half-time score still at 0-0 and QVS having much of the possession. Strong forward play got them over our line after 10 minutes and our boys continued to battle with what seemed like every ruck and tackle celebrated from QVS like they won the World Cup Final! However, prop Cammy managed to level the score after some great phases of play from Linlithgow involving forwards and our backs coming in and hunting the ball. Stand Off Fraser slotted the brilliant conversion from the 5 yard line for us to go ahead 7 – 5.

It continued to be a battle with both teams starting to suffer from the cold and wet and QVS managed to go over again from our handling error and then the resulting drive from their line out.  The Linlithgow boys, battered and having used all our subs and with boys playing out of position did manage a few chances to go back in front but the QVS defence stood strong and it finished with their win.

Congratulations to QVS and we wish them well in the semi-final.
