Four Wins out of Five for Young Reds School Teams

Saturday 09 September 2017

There were wins for the S1s, S2s, S3s and u16s on Saturday, while the u18s put in a creditable performance in their loss to Trinity Academy.

The S1s really clicked on Saturday, running in 11 tries, while conceding none and playing some excellent rugby against Trinity Academy at Arboretum.

The S2s ran in 8 tries, while conceding 4 in their match against Trinity Academy – this one played at Bangholm. The young Reds really clicked at times and put in some great passages of play in a fine win.

With Trinity unable to field a S3 team, the young Reds travelled to Peebles to play in a bounce game against strong opposition. This turned out to be a game of two halves, as the young Reds showed great determination and ability to come back from being 4 tries to 2 down at half-time to win the match. The first half performance was poor by their own high standards, however they were up against some very good players who have featured for Borders’ age group teams. After the break, though, they turned on the style running in 5 tries to win the match 43-26. Tries came from Kyle, Ewan (2), Luke, Tammo, Callum E and Ollie, with Ollie kicking 4 conversions.

The Reds u16s were able to field 20 players – giving 5 to Trinity to make up numbers – in an excellent game of competitive rugby. Hats off to those young Reds who turned out for Trinity – they certainly contributed to a highly entertaining match. The Reds eventually ran out 27-10 winners, but only after two tries late in the third (20 minute) period.
