S1 v Berwick (November 18)

S1s Champagne Rugby in the Sun

Linlithgow Academy S1  50 – 11  Berwick Academy S1

Saturday 10 November 2018

It was a glorious morning on Saturday, with blue skies overhead and a fine autumn sun bathing the pitch as the Young Reds’ S1s set out to maintain their unbeaten league record with the squad of 15 S1’s bolstered by Alfie, Ruari and Findlay from the P7s.  From the outset Linlithgow dominated the tackle area and were winning the ball back time after time.  With ball in hand they exploded through the Berwick defence with big powerful runs and exceptional support play.

Captain Johnny led the team with 6 tries, Jack got 2 along with 2 from Caiden.  Lewis, Reece, Daniel and “First Try” Jake each adding a try apiece.  The whole team contributed to these tries and it was great to see all 18 players interchanging positions during the game.  Well done to Alex for his first full game at Hooker and to Ryan, Cameron and Jamie on their dynamic play.  Well done to Reece in getting in a forward roll out of the tackle for the second game in a row and to Euan J, Logan, Ruan and Oogs for their great team play.

This was countered by a spirited Berwick attack who managed 3 tries from some great counter breaks.

The conversions added to the rugby entertainment.  In between 7 great kicks from Logan and Jack, we had the agony of Jack’s sliced kick in front of the posts that hit the corner flag, to the ecstasy of Ryan’s first (and only?) penalty conversion for the last try.

Overall a 50-11 win with a real step up in the whole team in skill and commitment against good opposition who are likely to be runners up in our league this year.

S3 Brief Report

The Young Reds S3’s were 3 tries up after 5 mins so the coaches decided to mix the teams to give everyone a more meaningful match. This resulted in some super rugby played in a great spirit with over 120 points being scored. Both teams played tough, fair rugby with smiles on their faces – couldn’t ask for anymore.
