Young Reds S1 Kick-off New Season
Saturday 7th August 2021
What an incredible day Saturday was, one that will live long in the memory of the new S1 team.
Arriving at North Berwick we left the rain in the west and enjoyed blue skies and sunshine as we headed over to the 2nd team pitch. We knew there were some u18 teams around and assumed we had the wrong pitch when we bumped into the North Berwick u13’s, they were a big, athletic looking and well coached side. This was going to be a stiff examination!
Following a good long warm up, we played the first 15 mins as a touch session but on a full pitch. In the early early exchanges, North Berwick impressed with structure, width and depth and it was a concern that through over ambition, the Young Reds turned the ball over very quickly several times. Fortunately though due to a good defensive press, NB were moved side to side with little ground gained. With Linlithgow timing passes to creating space and territory, it went right to the last moment before after repeated attacks, the North Berwick line was finally breached.
The next two sessions were full contact and gave the Young Reds a real test from a much larger team. The Young Reds were up to the challenge, with tenacious first up tackling and a well organised line.
With ball in hand, the S1s were as quick and ambitious as ever although lost the ball at the ruck on a few occasions which was a challenge for a time. However, quick hands and fast feet came to the rescue as some the teams traded tries including some wonderful individual efforts and a couple of magnificent team tries. Linlithgow ran out the winners of the friendly contest 6-5 and were rightly pleased with their effort and performance.
The afternoon at Foxlake was brilliant. It was so good to see the smiles on the faces and the team getting to know each other off the pitch. Such great memories and a famous day out to kick off the next stage of their rugby at Linlithgow
