Reds Win Porty 7s
Saturday 09 April 2022
The Reds got their ‘Sevens’ Season off to a cracking start when they won the Portobello Tournament at Cavalry Park on Saturday. They beat Edinburgh University and Ross High en route to the semis, where a last minute try from Cal Thomson saw them defeat a strong Edinburgh Accies side, featuring former Reds’ player Ally Wood. In the final against the invitational team ‘Hearts and Balls Mighty Bovs’, they fell behind 17-0, before finding their form and scoring 26 unanswered points with the pick from Ross ‘Hoochy’ Tulloch who beat four men before crossing the whitewash.

Linlithgow 36 – 14 Edinburgh University
Having raced to an early lead, the Reds made a complete change of their pack at half-time, bringing on the ‘bomb squad’ of Euan Mochrie, Cal Thomson and Jamie ‘Poochy’ Tulloch.
Linlithgow 24 – 14 Ross High
After squandering early opportunities to put the game to bed, the Reds found their structure and ran out comfortable winners.
Linlithgow 21 – 19 Edinburgh Accies
Facing a strong Accies’ side, which featured former Reds flanker Ally Wood, the Reds fell behind early and spent most of the match in catch-up mode. An outstanding performance from veteran Mark Green dragged the Reds across the finish line, but it took a try with the final play from Cal Thomson to seal the win.
Linlithgow 26 – 17 ‘Mighty Bovs’
The Reds found themselves 3 tries and 17 points down before they could get hold of the ball for an extended period. Then once they had the ball, they dominated the game, especially once the ‘bomb squad’ arrived at half-time! The Reds ran in 5 tries and 26 unanswered points to blow the ‘Bovs’ away and claim the Cup.
