Reds Beaten in Plate Final at Leith RFC 7s
Saturday 07 May 2016
In their last outing of the season, the Reds took a strong squad to the Leith Rugby Club 7-a-side Tournament in Edinburgh.
Linlithgow Squad
Chris Bredin (captain), Garry Anderson, Ross Martin, Jamie Livingston, Stuart Bell, Dougie Thomson, Stuart Cunningham, Euan Mochrie, Mark Caddle, Cammy Walker, Jack Frame and Neil Richardson.
Over the course of a rather long afternoon, 18 matches were played on a single pitch, resulting in some quite long down time between ties.
The Reds started the afternoon at high tempo running in 7 tries in a 47-5 win over the Scottish Prison Service. The tries were shared out with Jamie Livingston, Stuart Bell, Stuart Cunningham, Dougie Thomson, Ross Martin, Jack Frame and Cammy Walker all crossing the whitewash.
In their second pool match, the Reds were up against Lismore and although the tie finished two scores apiece (with tries from Garry Anderson and Jamie Livingston), Lismore kicked their two conversions to run out 14-10 winners.
This meant that the Reds progressed to the Plate semi-final where, after taking a commanding lead, they held on to beat a good Penicuik side by 27-25, with Stuart Cunningham claiming a hat trick of tries with additional tries from Chris Bredin and Jamie Livingston.
In the final, Linlithgow came up against the host side Leith and, despite two tries from Neil Richardson and one from Cammy Walker, they fell short finishing runners-up in the Plate Competition.
