Late Try Knocks Reds Out at Quarter-Final Stage
On Saturday, the Reds took part in the Blyth and Blyth Edinburgh Northern 7s at Inverleith Park. Their first tie was against Inverleith RFC and they ran out comfortable 40-0 winners, playing some fine attacking rugby in the process. There were tries from both Walker brothers – Ally and Cammy – and both Richardson brothers – Euan and Neil – as well as from captain Chris Bredin.
This took the Reds through to the quarter-finals where they were drawn against Lasswade – a club two divisions above the Reds in the National Leagues. Tries from Stuart Bell and Jack Frame took the Reds into a 10-0 lead half way through the second half. However, Lasswade scored a converted try to cut the Reds lead to 10-7 and with the last play of the game they scored again to sneak the tie by 14-10. Lasswade went on to reach the final where they lost out to Premier League club Currie in a closely fought match.
