Princess Anne to Open New Indoor Training Centre

Press Release:  15 May 2015

LINLITHGOW RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB HONOURED BY VISIT OF PRINCESS ANNE

Craig Young, President of Linlithgow Rugby Club, said today that the Club was honoured and delighted that HRH The Princess Royal had agreed to come to Mains Park on 8 July to open the new Club and Community Training Facility.

Craig said, “The Princess Royal is well-known for her long-standing support for Scottish Rugby in her capacity as Patron of the SRU.  It is exciting that she should come to see the successful result of the efforts of Linlithgow Rugby Club as a community club at the grassroots level of the game.  It will be a tremendous day for the Club and for the town.”

After years of planning, the indoor training facility was built in 2014, opening in November.  It consists of a 3G pitch measuring 18 x 38 metres and strength and conditioning suite with changing rooms and showers.

The whole project cost about £500,000 and the facility was built with financial assistance from sportscotland, the Land Trust and Cash Back for Communities plus a significant effort by the rugby club itself.  Members have to date raised nearly £80,000 through a variety of fund-raising events, including a Gala Dinner held at Murrayfield in partnership with the Bill McLaren Foundation.

Craig concluded, “To have our new facility opened by The Princess Royal herself will be a fitting end to all our efforts and will give us all another great memory in the journey we have had in making our plans a reality.
