POUND ROUND THE PITCH RAISED POUNDS
If anyone were flying above Mains Park last Saturday morning they must have wondered what was going on! It was, of course, our Pound Round The Pitch and all you Pounders should take a bow.
From the time that Kirk Richardson and his son, Calum, set off – half an hour before registration – to just before the coaches game kicked off, we had a steady stream of folk walking round and round the pitch. The numbers seemed to peak between 11.00 and 12.30 when there were loads of people on the circuit.
One hundred and fifteen people “registered” to walk but, as many of them were youth members, we had mums and dads joining in with them. There must have ben several hundreds in total before we finished.
We had grans and grandpas as well. We had one family en masse complete with a baby buggy. Even, because of the exceptional nature of the occasion, a couple of four-legged canine supporters were in the playing enclosure.
The music (with thanks to Jon and Andrew Blundell and Craig Young) added to the atmosphere. Tunes ranging from 500 Miles and Walk the Line through Money Money Money to We Are The Champions kept everyone going along briskly. There was a real buzz about the Club House.
Thanks also to Alison Timlin, Sandra Stewart, Hannah Bennett and Anne Brown for the cakes that everyone rewarded themselves with.
And the outcome? On the day £1,733 worth of sponsorship money was handed in. The cakes and, together with some other money that has been handed in since Saturday, we now have £2,347.90 The good news is that there is still some sponsorship money to come in so we expect that total to rise. We shall let you know in a couple of weeks what the final total turns out to be for us and for Comic Relief.
If you have money to hand in – Micros sponsorship money should go to Gordon Muir, Minis to Nick Chadwick and School Players to Kenny Ewing. Senior Members should pass theirs to Gavin Brown or leave it behind the bar for him.
Thanks to everyone who took part and supported this venture. It gave us another day to remember.
