Wee Reds P7s Close Out Calendar Year in Cracking Style
Sunday 02 December 2018
This was the last fixture of 2018 for the Wee Reds P7s and they managed to end it on a real high. They travelled to Kirkcaldy for a round of games and with dry, brisk weather and a 4G pitch, they were lucky to encounter conditions that allowed everyone to play open and attacking rugby.
The Wee Reds opened with a fixture against the hosts, Kirkcaldy. From the outset the Wee Reds set out their stall and gave no ground whatsoever. The opening minutes were significant and were all about Linlithgow making big tackles and hitting ruck after ruck to win the ball. The result was an opening try which was easily the best one of the day! The ball moved through almost everyone’s hand in the lead up and it showed the offloading game that we are looking to play. After that the game become one of quality tries and heroic defense for our boys. Kirkcaldy came close to the Wee Reds’ line a number of times but after some try saving tackles the P7s ran out 4-1 winners.
Next up were Lasswade and then Dalkeith. Both games followed a similar pattern and the story is exactly the same. Huge defence and quick, accurate and aggressive rucking were delivered by the Wee Reds. Time and again they made offensive tackles and through quick thinking they continually turned over the ball in the rucks. That set a platform for the attacking play to flow from and over the course of the two games wthe Wee Reds scored 12 tries and conceded none.
So the Wee Reds P7s ended up undefeated on the day with three fine wins!
“Today was all about attitude. In the warm up we asked the boys to look after the ball and be relentless whenever they did not have it. That is exactly what they did. They came together as a team and the work they put in off the ball and in the unglamorous parts of the game, meant they had the opportunity to show their skills with the ball in hand. Parents and coaches could not have been prouder and we look forward to kicking on into 2019!”
