Wee Reds P6s Much Improved at Home
Sunday 13 March 2016
After a disappointing performance at the Accies tournament last Sunday, losing all their matches, the boys today faced a mental mountain to overcome and restore their self-belief. I’m delighted to say that they more than succeeded in that task, winning two from four matches, drawing one and narrowly losing another by just one try in a hard fought battle against West of Scotland.
Overall, the boys played magnificently well, supporting each other throughout all of the games and showing a great team spirit. Whether a “veteran” of the team or one of the relatively new boys, everyone gave 100%, with solid communication and close contact support. In attack the boys were always looking for space, making great runs, shipping it out whenever they could and on taking contact making some great offloads, even managing a few pop passes from the deck! In defence, where they had let themselves down at the Accies tournament, this week saw much improved tackling, staying together as a defensive line and making it much harder for the opposition to find a way through. If there was a weakness, it was in our rucking game, where there is still some work to be done – that was particularly evident in the last game against Stirling where time and time again they cleared our players off the ball even when it was us taking the ball into the breakdown.
Overall, a lot of positives and improvements, and all the boys should be pleased with their performances today, both individually and more importantly collectively as a team – just keep up the good work next Sunday!
Scores were a 3-2 win against Stirling A, a 3-3 draw against Boroughmuir, a 3-2 defeat against West of Scotland and a 4-2 victory against Stirling B.
Finally, our best wishes for a speedy recovery go to Scott, who took a hit in the first game and has suffered a neck strain; take it easy and get well soon Scott.
