Linlithgow u18s at Veitch Cup at Murrayfield
Friday 24 October 2014
Playing as a Club Under 18 team in the Veitch Cup on the back pitches at Murrayfield on Friday night, gave our boys an opportunity to experience quality rugby against varying standards of opposition.
The Tournament took the format of 8 teams splitting into two leagues of four with the top two in each section qualifying for the Cup Semis and the bottom two competing in the Plate.
Linlithgow were drawn along side Currie, Trinity and Portobello, leaving the remaining four of Boroughmuir, Musselburgh, Preston Lodge and Tynecastle to fight it out in the other section.
Linlithgow were successful in qualifying as runners up in their group to compete in the Cup Semi Final against a very strong Boroughmuir Team who went on to win the tournament outright by beating Currie in the final.
Linlithgow beat Portobello 10-0
Linlithgow beaten by Currie 29-0
Linlithgow beat Trinity 36-0
Linlithgow 7 Boroughmuir 27
All in all great performance by our team who, on paper, was a strong selection, but the gulf between our level of Rugby and that of aspiring Premier Rugby Players of the future, such as Boroughmuir and Currie was evident from the start proving a step too far, but hopefully a valuable learning curve in their development.
The consolation was that every one was given complimentary tickets for the Edinburgh v Lyon match which was played later in the evening.
Next week sees our School first XV playing Trinity at home.
