On a morning perfect for rugby Linlithgow played a return match against Hutcheson GS Glasgow.
The Reds opened strongly and gained quick reward from a five meter lineout which was cleverly worked by the Reds for Calhan to crash over at the back of the driving maul Gregor added the conversion. The game then became a battle of both defences with only the odd half break which was often snuffed out by good defence on both sides. The visitors where subject to some great defence and crunching midfield tackles from the Reds and often after a few phases had to kick the ball to gain territory. They did score a couple of quick tries just before halftime converting one.
Linlithgow U18 7 – 12 Hutcheson G.S. U18
The visitors opened the second half strongly and again scored a couple of quick tries to stretch their lead. The young Reds at this point fought their way back into the game with Aidan crashing over from a set move from a scrum deep into the visitors twenty two. For the next twenty minutes it was all one way traffic with the home team camped in the opponents half attempting to get the next crucial score. Kieran came close when looking odds on to score under the posts the ball was lost in contact and the referee gave a no try. The visitors had a strong bench and they had to make full use of it and they grabbed a final breakaway try which was converted.
Final score of Linlithgow U18 12 – 29 Hutcheson GS
It was great to see how the squad has progressed from early August when we first played Hutcheson G.S. They are a quality team with strength in depth but our guys stuck well to the game plan, communicated well on the pitch with each other and with a few more subs and a bit more luck could have made the game even tighter than it was. We now need to build towards the next crucial conference game against Lasswade in a couple of weeks.
