Focus on Indoor Training

Protecting Our Pitches

The recent wet weather has had a significant impact on our two grass pitches.  (With work at Kettilstoun on the new 3G pitch we have lost our extra rugby pitch for the season)  This was compounded by the flooding of Lower Mains Park on Sunday 15 November, when the flood protection scheme kicked and and the pitch was submerged in about a foot of water.

As a result we will only use the grass pitches for matches and sparingly for training, in order to protect the pitches and to ensure that they both remain playable for the rest of the season.

Taking Youth Training Indoors for Next Three Months

For the next 3 months all youth training will be indoors, with outdoor training by exception.  Paul Fensom and the youth coaches have agreed a rota for Wednesday night training indoors and for Sundays when there are no matches.  You can view these rotas by clicking on the links below.  Please note that Dougie Thomson will handle any requests for youth outdoor training.

All Parents Welcome in the Clubhouse

We would like to welcome all parents into the Clubhouse on training nights – we will be open from 6pm on both Wednesday and Thursday nights.  Facilities include a coffee machine, bar, satellite TV (Sky and BT Sports) and free Wi-Fi, not to mention heating!!

Looking After Our Indoor 3G Pitch

At the end of November our (still) new facility will celebrate its first anniversary of operation.  Last winter we were able to continue rugby despite the poor weather and not a single night or day of training was lost thanks to the new facility.

Already this year we are seeing the benefit again.  The facility is booked out for training on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, as well as Sunday mornings and time on Monday and Friday afternoons.

We have a number of other regular users, most of whom have become affiliated clubs.  Some of them make use of the facility year round, although most are winter users, i.e. October to end March.

Next week (1st December), we have the contractors in do carry out the annual maintenance and deep clean of the 3G pitch and we will be taking the opportunity to remind all users of the simple rules of housekeeping which will help prolong the life of the pitch and which help ensure the safety of participants.
