2020 VISION: TOWARDS 50 – GOOD NEWS
The Rugby Club Board is delighted to announce that we have been successful in an application for financial assistance in helping us remedy the problems of the roof of the existing Club House and of the extension. We have received an award of £25,000 funded by Avondale Environmental Limited through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund.
A recent survey showed that we had to take radical and comprehensive action to remedy the defects that stemmed from the age and condition of the roof. In recent years we have had to pay for remedial work but these short-term repairs were no longer a viable option.
The Club is contributing about £4,000 from its own resources towards the repair, which is in accordance with the requirements of the award. We have already raised this money via our fund-raising activity last season and so the financial package is in place. Three contractors submitted quotes for the work and the Board will select the successful contractor next week, with a view to the work beginning as soon as possible.
The Club would also like to thank the community groups, organisations and individuals who provided statements in support of our application. It was undoubtedly of great assistance to our case. It was also extremely heartening to read the warm expressions of support from the many groups who use our facilities regularly.
This marks another milestone in the ambitious programme of work that we began five years, under the banner of 2020 Vision: Towards 50, both to develop and to refresh our facilities in time for our 50th Anniversary in November 2020, now just over two years away.
We have submitted a separate funding application to WREN Community Fund for assistance in refurbishing the Club House kitchen. We shall hear in December if we have been successful with this one. Watch this space – and fingers crossed!
