Update on Club Operations (January 2017)
Club Board (formerly Executive Committee)
The Club held it’s first Board meeting on Monday 09 January and the Club will start trading as Linlithgow Rugby Club Ltd. (a members’ club limited by guarantee) next month. We now have six persons on the Board:
President (and Chair) – Ken Richardson
Director of Rugby – Gordon Dixon
Director of Youth Rugby – Paul Fensom
Director of Operations – John Smith
Director of Finance – Alison Timlin
Company Secretary – Robin Stevenson
Back at the Club’s AGM in August, we only had 4 people standing for election to the Executive Committee / Board, however since then we have co-opted John Smith and Robin Stevenson on to the Board to give us full coverage of all areas of operation.
John Smith needs little introduction, both as a long time Club member and player and most recently as he was our Vice President last year, looking after off-the-field operations.
Robin Stevenson however is probably less well known to most members. Robin has board experience having recently retired as Director of James Jones, one of the largest timber processing groups in the UK. With our move to becoming a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG) and with the increasing complexity of running a business nowadays, Robin will bring invaluable experience to our new Board. Robin and his wife Catherine have lived in Linlithgow for over 30 years and both their sons, David and Andrew, played rugby from an early age with the Minis and then the school teams. David, who now lives in Edinburgh, is a Scotland Touch Rugby internationalist.
Since Gary McGill moved on last year, John Smith has stepped in to restructure support operations and the bar in particular. We are greatly indebted to Ian and Anne Gibson and to Becky Smith of Platform 3 for their support and guidance which has enabled John to put in place a new structure and training process for our bar operations and staff, in line with the requirements of legislation.
Under John’s guidance, a team of part-time staff has been put in place to operate the Clubhouse and the bar in particular. Three people are being trained as Personal Licence holders and the intention is that John Smith will become the Premises Manager in accordance with the Alcohol Act (Scotland) 2010.
New Clubhouse Booking System
Mary Ann Cochrane is now the first point of contact for clubhouse bookings and bar operations. A new booking system is in place (contact Mary Ann at email@example.com or 845087) and we have been striving to attract more day time users to bring in more revenue to support the rugby club. Some examples are:
Monday nights – Choir from 7-30pm
Tuesday nights – LAMP from 7pm
Thursday – Slimming World (all day till 8-30pm)
Bar Staff (all part-time)
Eilidh Manson, Beth McAllister, Amy McDonnell, Euan Conlon, James Timlin and Sam McAllister.
Cleaning Staff (both part-time)
Julie McAuley and Jen Elder
During the rugby season, the bar and Clubhouse will be open at the following core times:
Mondays – Choir night
Tuesdays – LAMP night
Wednesdays – open from 6pm to 9pm
Thursdays – open from 8-30pm to 11pm
Fridays – open from 7pm to 10pm (or later with function)
Saturday – open from 2pm to 10pm* (or later with function)
Sunday – open from 3pm to 7pm
* hours vary slightly depending on kick-off times and whether we have a home senior match
