Bob Cousar

Sad News – Bob Cousar

On Boxing Day we learned the sad news of the passing of another stalwart of Linlithgow Rugby Club, past Club President Bob Cousar. Bob is seen during his time as Club President in the team photo below. He is standing on the far right of the back row.

Another former Club President, Colin Wells has written a short tribute to Bob:

“Bob Cousar joined the club in season 73/74 playing a significant part in its development in the early years. My early memories of Bob were us setting out the newly acquired pitch at Springfield Farm (now Oracle) which was known as the ‘Cow Park’ for obvious reasons and worth 3 points of a start against any opposition. Bob featured regularly in the 1st XV in the mid seventies playing stand off or fullback before taking a step back to encourage new and younger players by captaining the 3rd XV. As a fellow player in the 1st XV Bob was pivotal at No 10 and most reliable at 15 kicking or fielding not to mention tackling, as in a one-on-one situation the opposition would rarely get past Bob.

Bob moved onto the committee in the late seventies becoming Club President for three seasons between 1978 and 1981 during which time he was heavily involved in local politics negotiating our home, since 1982, at Mains Park. Having lived in Highfield and Falkirk Road for many years, moves to South Queensferry and back to Bob’s roots in Ayrshire as well as a period overseas, West Lothian became home again in Bathgate. Unfortunately, Bob was struck down with Alzheimer’s around 2008 and has spent most of the time since in care homes in the county till now in his 80th year.

Our sincere condolences go to Maureen, Alison, Graham and Eileen all of whom were involved in the club in the early years. RIP Bob.”
