Digging into the archives, we came across a feature from 2014, when a number of the Club’s youth members had a special training session with past Scotland star and current Scottish Rugby ambassador, Chris Paterson. The matches we feature this week both come from autumn 2015 and cover a high scoring home win for the Reds and a hard fought away Cup win for an understrength U18 side:

Mikey Walker Grabs Hat Trick

Linlithgow  52 – 0  Hawick Linden

The Reds ran in 8 unanswered tries in this home league match from October 2015, with Mikey Walker claiming a hat-trick!

Stewart ducks in for Winning Try!

Breadalbane  17 – 20  Linlithgow

Scottish U18 Shield

The Young Reds started this match with only 14 players and finished with 13 because of injuries. Going into the final minutes they were trailing and under the cosh, when Gregor Stewart intercepted the ball and weaved 80 metres through defenders and a paddling of ducks, that had just alighted on the pitch, to score the winning try.

11 June 2020

We dip back three years to 2017 for our two matches, the Reds with a league and Edinburgh Shield double-header at Broughton and the 3s for an away match against Queensferry. We also pick up the Youth Awards from the previous season (2106-2017).

Classy Veterans Too Strong for the ’Ferry

Queensferry  5 – 25  Linlithgow 3s

Take a bunch of classy Reds’ veterans and sprinkle in a little youth and that’s what the Reds’ 3s had when they travelled through to Queensferry in October 2017. This was before the 3G pitch and, as the photo taken after the match shows, the Reds’ players revelled in the conditions!

One Close Game: Two Good Wins for the Reds!

Broughton  16 – 19  Linlithgow

A late penalty from Rab Cairns had edged the Reds in front, but it took a last ditch tackle from Pete Millar to seal the victory in this double header in Edinburgh kin early November 2017.

Youth Awards 2016-2017

A great evening to end a successful season at youth level was held on Wednesday 29th March 2017.  With over 130 people in attendance, the evening included accounts of a successful season with Linlithgow Academy winning their conference, with 3 of the 5 age group sides remaining unbeaten.

With Mains Park covered in snow, the Reds 2s travelled down to Grangemouth where the Glensburgh pitch was in perfect condition. Nicky Cowan gabbed a brace of tries, with James Timlin claiming the third. Chris Ronalson kicked two conversions to complete the scoring.

Having held St Columba’s to a 12-12 draw back at the start of the season – first game in fact – the Young Reds were narrowly defeated in their final home match of the season.

The Reds made a trip through to Edinburgh to play Broughton in the Edinburgh Shield and ran in 6 tries in this match to progress to the semi-finals. Mikey Walker, shown above, was one of the Reds’ try scorers.

Great Win in Borders for Reds 2s

Peebles A  19 – 21  Linlithgow 2s

Saturday 28 October 2017

To put this match into context, Peebles played two divisions above the Reds in the senior leagues, so this clash away at Peebles between both Club’s second string teams was always going to be a tough fixture for this young Reds team.

France 15 Years Ago

RUC Guyancourt  19 – 51  Linlithgow

Half-backs Blair Stewart and Mark Packer were outstanding in this game, which also featured fine performances from young Mark Green and veteran Jon Blundell in the backs.

The game was played on the top pitch in front of a few spectators who were keeping their eye on the World Cup rugby as well as their local team. In the early stages the young forwards who were being supported by veterans John Pauley and Stu Jamieson were enjoying Mains Park.

Wee Reds Mini Tournament

October 2014

Congratulations to all the players who turned out on Sunday at the Wee Reds Mini Tournament.  It was great to see so many youngsters and it looked as though everyone was having a ball!  We were delighted to welcome teams from Biggar, Forrester, Falkirk, Gala and Watsonians to Mains Park.

Tries from Charlie Gillanders, Graeme McCallum (above) and a brace from Matthew Archer gave the Reds a bonus point victory, but having led 29-10 in the second half, they were made to sweat as Livi clawed back 10 points and threatened more.

Unfortunately, Graham Black was only on hand for two of these matches, with the Reds playing in their blue change strips on both occasions. Captain for the day Les Richardson claimed a hat-trick, but the outstanding score came from scrum-half Dougie Thomson, whose score is shown below in a significantly speeded-up format!
