We have been talking about the Gala Dinner for months. It seems hard to believe that it is just over a week away. Time for an Update on 2020 matters
Deadline for a Great Night Out
The end of this week is the cut-off point for booking tables for the Gala Dinner. As we “go to print”, we have 30 tables already lined up and practically all of these are full. This has been a tremendous response and the Club Executive is extremely grateful for this support.
We have tables taken by companies and by individual members or groups of members. The evening’s programme is packed full of events and enjoyment. We shall hear from three Scotland legends. The Linlithgow RFC Male Voice Choir will be entertaining us. We shall enjoy Linlithgow’s Try of the Season competition. And we conclude the evening by dancing, or just listening, to John Beattie’s Band
All we need is for everyone to have great time and hope that everyone attending will be so enthused by the fantastic prizes and lots in the Prize Draw, the Main and Silent Auctions that the funds will flow in for our facility and for the Bill McLaren Foundation.
We have 30 players and partners coming. You might not have caught up with the fact that there will be not be having our traditional Club Dinner in 2014. All eyes and planning have been on this Gala Dinner. But the evening’s events will incorporate our award ceremony when Players of the Year awards will be handed out – in rather different and special surroundings.
>We have had mixed fortunes recently. Our application to the DHL Foundation did not attract their support, although we might re-group and try again! Many thanks to Craig Brodie who has given so much help in our approach to the Foundation.
We have, however, been notified of another award of £5,000 from the West Lothian Sports Council Sports Grant Scheme which they have earmarked for us to buy gym equipment. We are grateful to the Council for their support.
You might have seen in the Update that there was a rush of pigs recently which has raised the total from the piggy banks to £4,634.41. We have more to count as well. It seemed to take us a long time to sneak past last year’s end-year target of £4,000 but we have raced away from that.
Keep those pigs rolling in. We are happy to count them any time. And, when you hand one in, please remember to take one away!
We are trying to see if we can better the total of 160 bags that we sent in last year. There has been a lot of interest among all of you who see this as a good way of clearing out your wardrobes. If you have not yet collected a bag to fill, you’ll find them on the 2020 Vision Notice Board in the Club House.
You can return your bags to the Club House whenever you want but they should be returned by 22 May, as we are arranging for them to be collected soon after that.
Last month’s Coffee Morning raised £150 for the Development. We have also been selling Recipe Books and Linlithgow RFC canvas bags as well at recent home events such as the Micros Tournament. We shall let you know how these have gone.
We have also received a few donations recently. Leonie Glenning won the quiz prepared by last season’s U18s but decided to donate the £100 prize to our Development. Harry Lynch donated £50 and the Ladies Choir generously donated £500 to our new venture. We are very grateful for all this help.
We are, as ever, always glad to hear of new idea from members for fund-raising.
And what is it all about again?
I am sure all of us walking past the construction site are stopping to have a look at how work has begun. And you can see the foundations are being prepared. After so much talk, so many pigs, so many forms and so much hassling from the Executive to attend events, it is good to see that the real work is under way.
The big question is when will it be complete? This should be by the end of October! The building programme is on the 2020 Notice Board. The Bulletins will also keep you informed. If members have any questions relating to the construction site then speak, in the first instance, to David Mitchell (07811202757) or to any member of the Executive.
The next 2020 Bulletin will report on the evening of Saturday 26 April and we might then focus more on news of the construction during summer before we pick up the fund-raising activity in earnest in time for the start of next season – and as the date for the hand over to us of the new facility approaches!!
