A Victorious Adventure to Crieff!
Morrison’s Academy 1st XV 12 – 29 Linlithgow Academy 1st XV
Saturday 11 October 2014
George Threadgall tells the story of the match…
What a day !
Following some good behind the scenes activity over the past few days, we managed to pull together 18 players for the away trip to Crieff to play Morrison’s Academy.
Saturday morning’s news was to advise us of a late call off! We arrived at Crief with 17 players when lightning struck again – one of our players took ill during the warm up! Not to be despondent, we quickly re shuffled the selection and the game got under way.
We hadn’t played for 10 minutes when an injury forced Euan, our star scrum half, to leave the field of play. 10 minutes into a match against a fee paying school 1st XV with us having 15 players, many of whom were playing out of position was not our dream start! Both wing forwards were “converted” backs. One of our second row players moved from his regular slot of wing forward – his third position in three weeks. Our Centre for the day, who normally plays at 10, moved in to scrum half. We had a guest player at centre. Our stand off was playing only his second game for us. Our tight head prop normally plays in the back row.
OK at this point, our readers may be forgiven if their thoughts were that we were in for a torrid time for the next 60 minutes.
Watch this space !
Instead of crumbling under expectations and casualties, our heroes dug in and played some of the best Rugby we have witnessed from them this season.
We came out as eventual winners (Yep, we won), four tries to two with the final score being recorded as a 29-12 away win!
Too many stars today to single out individuals for praise. Guys, you have now raised your game to a new level. Brilliant performance!
Lets move on from here and prove to ourselves that our performance today is now the norm.
No pressure then ! Bring it on !
