Two Thirds Column
On Wednesday, the u18s went up to Kenmore to play Breadalbane Academy in the Brewin Dolphin Shield. With only 14 players able to travel, the Reds were behind the eight ball from the start but they knuckled down to their task and played some strong team rugby. With 15 minutes to go an injury to one of the Reds meant that the final minutes were played out as 13 against 15. With the Reds trailing going into the last few minutes, it didn’t look good for the visitors, but an interception try from Gregor Stewart turned the game around. What made the try special was not just the interception in his own 22, turning defence into attack, not just the 80 metre run to the opponents’ try line, but most impressively the side-stepping and weaving through a balding of ducks (look that one up!) that had alighted on the Kenmore pitch a few minutes earlier! Well done to the u18s who progress to the next round.
