League Leaders Too Hot to Handle!
Linlithgow 2s 5 – 36 Heriots 3s
Saturday 14 February 2015
Heriots appeared at Linlithgow for this game sitting at the top of this league and in no mood to lose any points.
The Linlithgow side was changed considerably since Grangemouth a couple of weeks ago, but it was good to see veteran Stuart Jamieson making only his second appearance due to work commitments and Matty McKenna, on leave, both starting in the second row.
The game started at a furious pace and before long Heriots took advantage of some loose play to touch down for a try which they converted. Linlithgow started to string some decent efforts together and Stuart Young, Chris Ronalson and Lewis Herdman were tackling everything that moved. Some of the players were finding the pace considerably quick compared to a normal second team game but Cameron Doni-Muir was making great ground from every pick up at number eight. From one such pick up and sprint, Cameron offloaded to his father Neil who made thirty metres down the line and then Neil passed inside to the supporting Lewis Herdman who scored the only Linlithgow try between the posts.
The game ebbed and flowed and Linlithgow players defended manfully but eventually the Heriots team pressure started to result in more tries and the final result of 36-5 flattered the Heriots side.
All the Linlithgow players realised that they had been in a difficult game but acknowleged that this opposition team is exceptional for the league and will fully merit being champions at the end of the season.
