2s v Haddington

League Leaders Too Strong for Reds 2s

Linlithgow 2s  5 – 48  Haddington

Saturday 14 November 2015

Kenny_HThe pitches were in great shape considering the torrential rain that had battered the country on Friday. Linlithgow started with a competitive team but the manager was aware that A Birrell, K McKenzie, P Bennie and G McNab, four of his more senior players were lacking match fitness.  Haddington had also been posting some good results against other teams in the league.

Linlithgow started brightly with some good running rugby. Unfortunately Haddington started to control the game winning loose ball and offloading in the tackle with ease. The young players like G Aitcheson, D McClymont, and D Sommerville were finding it very hard to contain the strong running of the Haddington backs and forwards.

Cammy_HThe scores were being racked up by the opposition but to be fair the Linlithgow lads were trying very hard to score and playing positive rugby.  Eventually after a very good move involving C Ronalson, R Myles, J Timlin and A Walker was finished off well in the corner by Cammy Walker. Cammy is proving to be a find and he is enjoying his rugby scoring every week which lifts the rest of the team.

The coach was pleased with the effort of many and it was good to see the youth coming through.  On reflection it’s difficult for our mix of young inexperienced and older less fit athletes to compete against much more experienced, hardened and serious players who just want a game on a Saturday.  It makes learning quickly very important and can end up in difficult games like this one.  Hopefully next week will give respite, but with next week’s visitors, Watsonian 3s, unbeaten in the league to date, the coach is not sure.
